As a Scientific Director, you will be responsible for developing quality medical and scientific content around cutting-edge scientific developments across a diverse range of channels. This might mean partnering with a client on a presentation for the first look at new study results or collaborating with our designers on a new illustration to explain a disease process. Who is the ideal candidate?

You are a highly motivated and driven individual. You are enthusiastic about science and eager to tell those stories of science and medicine. You enjoy the challenges and opportunities of telling those stories through varied communications vehicles, in diverse educational settings, to audiences of varied backgrounds.

You have considerable experience in the life sciences and writing experience in Scientific Affairs or Medical Communications. You understand scientific and clinical information and use that knowledge to create strategic and compelling content that delivers on a strategically crafted scientific narrative for diverse healthcare professional audiences (and, sometimes, for patients and caregivers, too). Teamwork and collaboration are a must because we expect excellence of ourselves and in our work for clients. Everyone on our team works from home, Pacific time (most of us are in Southern California), so you can feel comfortable doing your thing in your own environment for your unique work style and needs.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborates with clients and our team to develop or update content for medical communications materials such as slide presentations, posters, abstracts, and other deliverables
  • Reviews medical content, provides annotations and references using client content management systems (such as Veeva)
    Understands the strategy and needs of our scientific affairs clients for their internal business needs, such as publication plans, operating reviews, reporting, and dashboards
  • Provides direction and support to graphic designers regarding the visual development and implementation of all content-related pieces prior to client release
  • Proofreads completed projects, including data, text, and overall content, to ensure quality and scientific accuracy
    Manages sensitive and/or confidential documents and information

Job Requirements:

  • An advanced degree (PhD, MD, or PharmD) in biomedical, life sciences, or related fields, such as health economics or biostatistics
  • Accomplished technical writing abilities. They must be able to write clearly and concisely and have prior experience with narrative communication of clinical and economic value
  • A strong capacity to understand and synthesize substantial amounts of clinical, scientific, technical, and medical information in order to summarize the salient points against short deadlines
  • The ability to function as key scientific contact for clients across a range of teams and accounts
  • Experience to apply to managing numerous programs in various stages of lifecycle
  • The skills needed to function in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple projects with overlapping timeframes and deadlines
